MFRC522
NXP MFRC522 NFC reader and writer IC at 13.56 MHz for ISO/IEC 14443A and MIFARE, over SPI, I2C or UART, in an HVQFN32 package.
The MFRC522 is an NXP highly integrated reader and writer IC for contactless communication at 13.56 MHz, in an HVQFN32 package, that supports ISO/IEC 14443A and the MIFARE Classic and Ultralight cards, and it is one of the most widely used NFC reader parts in the world for access, ticketing and identification. The device includes an integrated analog front end for the reader and the writer, a demodulator and a decoder, a CRC and parity engine for the ISO/IEC 14443A framing and a set of registers that a host controls over SPI, I2C or UART, so a designer can build a low-cost reader with a small external antenna and a few matching components. It also provides a card emulation and a set of host interfaces for a flexible design, and it operates from a single low supply voltage over an industrial temperature range. The simple interface and the low cost make it a common choice for a ticket reader, an access panel and a hobby or an educational project, and the reference design and the antenna guidance make the bring-up quick. Typical applications include access control, ticketing and identification, a time-and-attendance reader and a contactless interface on an instrument. Every device BeiLuo ships is factory-traceable and includes an import declaration, a certificate of origin and a RoHS compliance file. Our FAE team helps you choose the interface and plan the antenna.
FAE Professional Review
The MFRC522 is the cost-effective reader for ISO/IEC 14443A and MIFARE, with SPI, I2C and UART host interfaces, so it suits an access, a ticketing or an identification design where a full NFC stack is not needed. Plan the 13.56 MHz antenna and the matching, keep them close to the IC and confirm the read range on the bench with a reference card.

Frequently Asked Questions
What projects suit the MFRC522?
It suits a low-cost reader for ISO/IEC 14443A and MIFARE cards over SPI, I2C or UART, such as an access panel, a ticket or an attendance reader or a contactless interface on an instrument.
Plan the antenna and the interface.
MFRC522 or PN532?
Choose the MFRC522 for a simple, low-cost ISO/IEC 14443A and MIFARE reader, and the PN532 for a full NFC controller with reader, card and peer-to-peer modes and a broader protocol support.
Our FAE team can help choose the reader.
